Touchet Historical Society

11/12/2008

Dear Touchet Friend:

Historical preservation is an important task for members of any community. “Professor Johnston often said that if you didn't know history, you didn't know anything. You were a leaf that didn't know it was part of a tree.”
~Michael Crichton, Timeline

We are at a critical time in our community’s history. The face of the community is changing rapidly. Local historians who knew the founding fathers and their stories are leaving us-their valuable historical knowledge lost to us forever if we don’t act now.

To that end I am forming the Touchet Historical Society. It is so important to me that we record for future generations the unique role that our community played in the expansion of the Pacific Northwest. Documenting important contributions our ancestor’s made to the formation of this place we call home.

Please join me in this important undertaking Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 6PM at the Touchet High School. I will provide dinner and dessert. Please bring your ideas.

RSVP by Monday, December 1, 2008.

Sincerely,

Shelley R. Saranto Perkins
President
Touchet Historical Society

THS Ajourned for Summer

Touchet is historically a flurry of activity through the summer. The Touchet Historical Society will not be meeting until October of 2009. Once the harvest is brought in and the Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days have exhausted the population of this little burg- we will resume the business of the Historical Society. If you have a personal historic project that you are working on and would like to present the society- please contact me shelley.perkins@touchethistory.org any time.

Meeting July 16, 2009

Touchet Historical Society meets this Thursday at 7PM at Touchet High School. Officers will be voted on and an initial project will be selected.
If you have questions or would like to join us please contact Shelley Perkins at shelley.perkins@touchethistory.org

Meeting June 18, 2009

Touchet Historical Society will be meeting the third Thursday of the Month through summer to establish a board of directors and officers. Please join us at 7PM for a meeting and dessert at the Touchet High School in the former Home Ec room.
Come join us and please tell your friends and neighbors.

January Meeting Cancelled Due to Weather

Touchet Historical Society to choose Board of Directors and Officers in February. Our January meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather.

We will be meeting in February to choose a board and executive officers. If you are interested in serving the Touchet Historical Society in this capacity please contact Shelley Perkins at Shelley.Perkins@TouchetHistory.org

No invitation is necessary to join our meeting please contact Shelley.Perkins@TouchetHistory.Org to reserve your spot for our dinner meeting.

Website Changes

By now you have probably noticed that the web site for THS has already gone through three major revisions. We are currently trying out a content managment system (CMS) known as Drupal. At the meeting on 12/03 we had already setup the previous Joomla CMS. Joomla had promise as it is so well known but there were some bothersome aspects to include a lack of free theme support.
